Hey Bernie, I see you on here quite a bit. I work for an airline and we have a sheetmetal shop and quite a bit of differing thicknesses of metal available. Keep in mind this will all be aircraft grade metal. I'm dont work in the sheetmetal dept but do have access to scrap or just about anything I want within reason. I dont know about 3/8 thick but I do know we have metals in thicknesses up to .050 and some thicker but off the top of my head I cant recall, would have to go look. Metal of 3/8 thick would be hard to work with so keep in mind you can always double it or triple it which is what we do with aircraft, thats why they call reinforcements doublers. Little trivia. I would be more than happy to get you what you need and send it to you gratis, you just pay the mailman fees. Now dont think of scrap as old bent up junk, we dispose of some pretty nice metal that for one reason or another wont pass quality grade inspections for aircraft use, but would be great for the car project. I will have to check and see if we have any stainless. Dont use much of that on planes.
